I always thought that cats were unsocial and indifferent and boring to keep. But after adopting two stray cats, my perception totally changed. As kittens, they were extremely playful and cheeky and when they became older, they were more sentimental and hardly left my side.
Here are a few more reasons as to why getting a cat is not a bad idea:
Cats are easy to manage; they do not require large amounts of food to survive and are easy to bathe. Cats tend to clean and groom themselves daily so the owner does not have to worry about their cleanliness. Cats do not grow to enormous sizes, eliminating the need for large gardens. Also, they are not too heavy, making it easy to carry them around.
Cats are capable of showing their moods and communicating their feelings - by twitching their tails and purring. An owner can also observe the way the cat moves its ears and opens its eyes to decipher cat expressions. Interestingly, cats are able to detect changes in their owners’ moods. Social cats tend to follow their owners around the house to keep them company. Certain people believe that cat owners live longer, happier lives with less stress and less heart attacks.
Cats are easily entertained - they spend a whopping 16 hours of each day sleeping! They are easy to play with; all you need is some string or a flash light for your cat to chase after (they are fascinated by moving objects/lights). Another relief is that you don’t have to worry about your cat hurting itself, as they tend to be very nimble and always land on their feet.
Cats have a rather long lifespan provided they are looked after well (adequately fed that is!). The average lifespan of an indoor cat is 15-17 years – so you can rely on them being there!
