We all attempt to save energy in our homes, yet pay less attention when we are at office. Businesses can increase profitability by cutting back on energy costs. By saving energy, your company can decrease overhead costs, and your boss just might give you a pay raise (not guaranteed!). Here are a few tips to save energy at your office.
Screensavers don’t save enough energy. Make sure you send your monitor to sleep or power off when you are away from your desk for more than ten minutes.
Walk more – use the stairs instead of the lift. Of course, if you work on the 8th floor of your building it may not be practical. Not only are using stairs great for your health, you are also saving electricity!
Save your print cartridge and paper – For rough work or internal use documents, print in black and white and change the printers settings to ‘Draft/Economy’. Don’t forget to save paper by printing on both sides. Encourage employees to use scrap paper to take notes.
Remove yourself from junk mail lists. Before you throw away your junk mail (catalogues, credit card offers, stuff that you don’t even bother reading anymore) ask that your name be removed from its mailing list. Opt for emails instead. Think of all the trees that were destroyed every time you throw away some printed material.
Recycle recycle! All paper products can and should be recycled. Only buy 100% recycled paper. Try and recycle other things in office such as batteries, printer cartridges, DVDs and CDs.
