Dark circles around the eyes (eye bags, raccoon eyes) are a common cosmetic problem, seen often in females more than males. What causes dark circles? The skin around the eyelids is the thinnest skin in the body. The dark circles are actually blood vessels that can be seen through the skin.
Make a natural remedy by combining tomato and lemon juice together. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and gently dab it under your eyes. Do this twice a day to fade the dark circles. Another home remedy is to place used tea bags under your eyes.
Place something cold on top of your eyes such as cucumber slices. This will help ease the puffiness and soothe your eyes. Lie down with the slices on your eyes for about 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can place a cold spoon against your eyes.
Eat healthy! Eat fruits and vegies that contain beta carotene that is good for your eyes. Some examples include carrots, spinach, mango and papaya.
Get enough rest and sleep well. This will keep you looking fresh. Also, try sleep with your head raised just a little. If you sleep with your head facing downward, the fluids will settle around your eyes, leading to puffiness. Avoid rubbing your eyes as this breaks the blood vessels and leads to bruising.
