The first solution that pops into your mind if you want to make your home smell nice would be the use of air fresheners. Chemical air fresheners such as scented sprays, gels and plug-in air fresheners are easily found in most supermarkets and commonly used by everyone.
But did you know that these methods can be hazardous to health? Studies have shown that air fresheners contain chemicals such as formaldehyde and phenol that are toxic to health, particularly in younger children and babies.
But what other options do you have to keep your house smelling fresh? Avoid the use of chemicals with these easy-to-do natural alternates.
Lemon does the trick! Mix equal parts of lemon juice and water and store it in a spray bottle. Spray this around your home once or twice a week or when needed.
Herbs and spices! Spice up your home by simmering a small amount of cloves, ginger, cinnamon and any other herbs in a small amount of water on your stove. For a more minty smell, you can boil some mint leaves in 8 cups of water, then simmer it for a long lasting smell.
Vanilla for quick smells! For rooms that need to be freshened immediately, soak cotton balls in vanilla extract and place the cotton in a jar where you need to refresh the air. Or just pour the vanilla extract into a small bowl and let it work its magic.
Plants, the most natural air freshener! Common houseplants can remove harmful substances that may be in your home by releasing oxygen, adding moisture to the air and absorbing toxins through their leaves.
