Arranging things in your kitchen in a neat orderly manner means less stress and ultimately more time for you to cook and eat your meals!
Utensils
If everything has its own place, you don’t have to waste time looking for the odd spatula, pots and pans. Separate items into those that you use everyday and store these on more accessible lower shelves, while those that you don’t use often can be stored elsewhere, say on top of your cabinet. Products that make food preparation easier, but are not needed daily such as graters and strainers should be kept in view – possibly hang them on nails on your kitchen wall. If you run out of room in your kitchen, you might want to consider hanging more things, such as mugs and tea cups.
Ingredients
Items should be stored according to type. Don’t think of chucking everything together on one shelf, this will only make searching for them more tedious. You could arrange items however it suits you, it could be according to frequently used ones or even alphabetically ordered. Make sure you store them in specific compartments. Stackable trays are useful for storing onions, garlic and potatoes. Boxed and canned items should be kept in cabinets or in shelves. Install a spice rack near your stove, for easy reach when cooking.
Labeling Items
Whilst storing the items as explained above, it is good practice to label the containers that your ingredients are in and the various compartments or shelves, so that each item can be easily located. This is a great idea, especially when there are a lot of members in a family. Moreover, drawers can also carry labels for utensils such as ‘Cutlery’, ‘Reserves’ etc so that every member of the family knows what is where.
